Bebin Cypher & Paco Sutera

Bebin and Paco create porcelain art pottery in their studio home in the hills near Wimberley Texas. They have been collaborating since 1978 and working from their present home since 1982.

All work is thrown by either Paco or Bebin on their wheels or constructed by them from slabs made on a slab roller. Once the work has dried slowly and been fired to a low temperature for a “bisque” it is dipped in a liquid clear glaze. Bebin and Paco both hand paint glaze stains mixed with a wax solution directly onto the powdery, unfired glaze surface. The work is then reloaded into the kiln for a long, slow firing to cone 10, 2400° F. The clear glaze over the white surface of the porcelain is an excellent canvas for their extra vivid colors.

The couple make many functional and decorative pieces, each one by hand, one at a time. These include dinnerware, vases, lamps, clocks, serving pieces, wall pieces, tiles, sinks and unique center pieces and at times surely anything that could be made from clay. Everything that leaves their studio is high fired and lead free. All the functional work is DW, MW and oven safe.

They love creating objects for people to use and enjoy in their everyday lives. Their inspiration is boundless.
