Resume & Biography
From pottery to painting to designing jewelry, my life is filled with artistic endeavors. My career started by illustrating tires and cartooning the Astrodome scoreboard.
My painting career began in 2001. Prior to that I handled all advertising for my family's business, which I received many awards for advertising - both national and local. Early in my career I worked and lived in Alaska where I produced 16mm films for industry. Many of these films were recipients of national awards.
I am a native Texan - born in Bay City, Texas 1946.
Since 1979 I have lived in Lake Jackson, Texas which is located in Brazoria County on the Gulf Coast.
My paintings
I use a combination of Eastern and Western techniques to achieve my contemporary images. I combine Chinese brush strokes with ink and watercolor to paint Texas birds, fish and flowers. I apply the strokes from a round Chinese brush to mostly watercolor paper. Recently I have translated these same techniques to canvas, using acrylic paint.
Like the traditional Chinese artists, I paint very quickly and the image must stand as it is with no chance of going back. I practice my images much like a pianist would practice for a concert. After the image is learned and while I am centered, the painting flows very easily and softly. I often ask my husband, Glenn - a composer, to play music as I paint to help set the mood.
