Artist Statement
My name is Jo Anna Ordóñez and I am the creator of Vidriosa Glassworks. Vidriosa provides an outlet for my self-taught creative efforts focusing on my passion for glass and free-formed art. I can always remember challenging the norms in what I was taught as traditional art. From oils to sculpture, I just couldn't stick to the classical plan of my teachers, which frustrated them to no end.
Today, each of my pieces reflects an original design focusing on my heritage, my faith and my dreams. As an Engineer, the creative process can be quite a challenge, but I believe that the feeling of each piece should dictate where and what direction it takes and by that will hopefully evoke a feeling or reaction from those viewing my pieces.
I do my best to select each element for the piece so that it best compliment the design. I incorporate many materials including crystals, rhinestones and found objects to create each individual piece. The glass is then hand leaded, shaped, soldered and patina to bring my vision to life. My designs have evolved to more intricate pieces with a focus on the inspirations in my life: Life, family, and faith. I have had the privilege of participating in many Arts Events throughout the Southwest.
Tomorrow is another day and there will be new inspiration at every turn...
